5 a.m. Musings

Braxton Hicks -- these "practice" contractions were with me all day yesterday -- from the moment I woke up to the moment I went to sleep. That, along with the fact that my nesting instinct finally kicked in, and I had back pain so bad that there were times I couldn't walk because it shot down my leg, had me thinking "This might be the real deal!"

I was wrong.

So I'm back at the computer at 5 a.m. eating waffles and wondering if I want to go ahead and make a pot of coffee or attempt to get some more ZZZzzzs. Hmmm, CCCcccs or ZZZzzzs?

The great thing about being up this early is that I can hear the birds chirping and when the door is open I hear the frogs across the way. I even hear Wesley mumble in his sleep from time to time. Patrick is tossing a bit. The dogs are waiting for someone to wake up and walk them -- they are forever hopeful.

I enjoy having a smaller home. Even though I am sitting in the dining room I feel very connected to what is going on, which is important at this stage of our family. Thank goodness I am not tromping up and down stairs at this stage of pregnancy just to check on every sound I hear or to get laundry to its destination.

(If I had some creamer I would definitely go for the coffee right now. Unfortunately, we are out so I don't know if I'd enjoy it as much.)

Patrick and I practiced labor and birthing positions yesterday. I even called the birthing center after hours to make sure I had the correct number -- I did. We made sure the cameras were charged, cleared the photos from one and got a blank tape for the other. We also alerted Casey that we may call her that evening ... but we didn't.

I was tempted to start walking. I decided to let the little guy come at his own pace though. I walked with Wesley and while I do think it helped, it wasn't at all an efficient labor.

I walked on Thursday with Louis, who visited us for the day. We took a family outing to the Eno River park in Durham. Wesley hadn't seen Louis since December and when we told him that his Uncle Lou was coming, he said "Uncle Louis's truck?"

He has a great memory!

When Louis arrived Wesley was jumping up and down with joy. This obviously delighted Louis, who later walked with his nephew on his shoulders and played race cars quite a bit.

I just realized I'm tired and want to try and sleep. I'm opting for the ZZZzzzs and a glass of water.

Will update later.
